Working with pictures of Japan made in 1875 as part of a British scientific expedition, McLeod invited contemporary residents to join him in collectively rephotographing and documenting sites where the original pictures were taken. Openly sharing the gathered visual material amongst the groups, each participant was then invited to create a collage that communicated “their” experience.

August 27th (Saturday) afternoon, meet artist Gary McLeod at the Reception and Art Talk at 1839 Contemporary Gallery in Taipei, Taiwan. The exhibition showcases Gary and Others over 26 images from recent works.

Free Art Talk by Gary at 3pm on Saturday 27th of August.  The talk’s audience will be limited to 60 people, and advance seat reservations are recommended. Meanwhile, welcome to join Gary for a participatory rephotography workshop on August 28th (Sunday).

About Artist:

Gary McLeod is a British photographer who deliberately opens up his practice to other camera users in order to learn from the improbabilities that only they can make photographically possible. With a background in Digital Arts and commercial practice, he received a PhD in Photography from London College of Communication for research into rephotography and the Challenger expedition (1872–1876).
