At the end of 2023, 1839 Contemporary Gallery carefully planned 16 female photography artists to jointly exhibit 30 photographic works, covering different periods and styles from the 1940s to the present. Surprisingly, through the works on display, we can see a variety of creative and expression techniques and prints from dye transfer、photo-polymer etching、Iris、gelatin silver、Polaroid、achieve inkjet etc., which fully demonstrate the exploratory thinking of female photographers.
The Photo-Talk with Artist will be held on two Saturdays, December 9th and 16th, starting at 3 PM. We offer free registration, but seats are limited, so we encourage you to sign up early to secure your spot.
This series of discussions with female photographers will delve into the works of women photographers from different eras. Their visual language and unique perspectives have had a significant impact on the field of photography, which cannot be ignored. We believe that through these conversations, you will experience the distinctive styles and talents of female photographers.
Interacting and exchanging ideas with the exhibiting artists will provide a rare opportunity to directly inquire about their creative inspirations, techniques, and challenges. It will also be a chance to share thoughts and experiences with fellow photography enthusiasts.

From the 1940s to the 2020s to the present, the history of photography in these more than 80 years has experienced modern photography, documentary photography, feminist photography, manipulation photography, and postmodern photography. In the expression of photographic art creation in different eras such as postmodern photography and contemporary photography, female artists have not been absent during such a long time span, especially since the 1980s, showing amazing and extraordinary creative energy. There are countless outstanding female photographers in the contemporary art world, including the artists in this exhibition, Sandy Skoglund, Barbara Kasten, Michiko Kon, etc. They were all very popular at the time and and received attention and praise from many historians and curators.
