In 2023, the Great Leap Forward in the Year of the Rabbit, our continuous contribution to the photography community in Taiwan has been recognized and awarded as selected as one of the Best Art Galleries/Museums in the 2023 World Art Awards (WAA).

I sincere thanks to friends who love photography all over the world for your support and affirmation of 1839 Contemporary Gallery! For 14 years, it has not been easy to only focus on and persist in photography exhibitions. But, as always, it’s worth it to have your support.

The only gallery in Taiwan that has focused on the art of photography for over 14 years, Taipei-based 1839 Contemporary Gallery takes its name “from photography invention in 1839 to now.”  High-ranking artists to exhibit are Michael Kenna, Jock Sturges, Michael Wolf, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Daido Moriyama, Nobuyoshi Araki, Toshio Shibata, Kenro Izu, Taishi Hirokawa, Tokihiro Sato, Michiko Kon, Ken Kitano, Kozo Miyoshi, Eiji Ina, Yoshihiko Ito and Photographer Hal. Another 75 professional photographers from the United States, Germany, Britain, France, Poland, Japan, South Korea, China, and Taiwan elsewhere have been beautifully showcased in the museum-like gallery here as well.
